In order to make better known the art of Johan-Barthold Jongkind and
in view of the major exhibition of Jongkind's work which will take place
in The Hague and Paris in 2003 we have decided to publish shortly a critical
catalogue of his work in two parts, the first will concentrate on the
oils while the second will show his watercolours and gouaches.
For this purpose a Jongkind committee has been formed in order to select
the works that will figure in this catalogue. The committee at this time
is made up of three members: Mr. François Auffret, President of
the Association of the Friends of Jongkind, Mr. Ivo Bouwman, Gallery director
in The Hague, Mr. François Delestre, Gallery director in London
and Paris.
The committee's essential aim is to continue the research of Mrs. Victorine
Hefting whose book published in 1975 is considered today the main source
of reference on the artist's work. Her book was not meant to incorporate
the complete work of the artist, only to present significant examples.
To this end and with the complete support of the Gemeente Museum in The
Hague, the committee has, of course access to the archives of Mrs Hefting
which are kept by the Netherlands Institute For Art History. The participation
of Mr Ivo Bouwman, a personal friend of Mrs. Hefting, as a member of the
committee assures a close collaboration with Dutch institutions and collectors.
The committee hopes to be able to count on your support in the rapid completion
of this project, which many collectors and museums in the Netherlands,
France, etc. are anticipating. Its purpose is the publication of a catalogue
of the complete works of Johan-Barthold Jongkind. Employing new technologies
such as computer data and the Internet along with Mrs. Hefting's invaluable
documents, the committee will undertake to publish in the near future.
Thank you in advance for your help.
MM Ivo Bouwman (La Haye), François Delestre (Paris & Londres) and François Auffret (Paris)
